Laborious ? What do you think?

As a furniture sculptor and crafts(wo)man,
I love the physicality of my work.
I touch, feel, lift, move, carry, etc. etc. each piece.
That is what connects me so personally with the design and process.
Each piece has the “fingerprints”
of everyone who touched it,
physically and mentally
and that gives the work a soul.

I love looking at work that shows the artists hand.
I visualize the love, the touch and the time
that went into the creation.
Here is a peak into the studio.

Custom hand crafted furniture not only has
a story and a soul,
but all work made at the Andi-Le  Aspen Studio
gives the owner a sense of pride and
is a unique statement of style,
bringing function and art together.

I am hoping this gives you a little insight
and inspires you to

Does Your Space Have a Soul ?

Creating a home is creating peace, tranquility and joy.
Surrounding yourself with pieces that have a story
brings to light your journey, interests and passions.

Our home tells a story about who we are
and we tell that story through our things.
In the choices we make, the colors we choose
and the things we display.

Growing up with an interior designer mother,
décor is ingrained in my cells.
As a sculptor of furniture, my first priority for a commission
is to understand the design aesthetic of the space
in keeping with the integrity.
I consider my work, the icing to a great cake.
Personal space deserves design with a soul.
Custom pieces transform the décor with the
fingerprints of the creator(s).
Collaboration elevates the design
with the unique qualities and pride.

All Andi-Le pieces have a story to tell, from inspiration to creation.

My passion is to create pieces that fit into the décor as well as stand alone as art. Treat your home as a source of inspiration,
because that is where life happens.

BURN BABY BURN ! Process: Shou Sugi Ban

Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 10.15.29 AM.png

I started playing with fire years ago
and didn’t know it was actually an ancient technique.
Charring wood was a process I thought that I made up 20 years ago, while working on a series of figurative wood sculptures.

I had my welding equipment, So I thought why not???
Not quite “Hey watch this!”  :)
but I did have some experiences that needed the fire extinguisher.

I used my oxyacetylene torch to burn the sculptures,

1.    Because I sculpted aspens logs, depending on the grain direction
I often had “fuzz”, that sanding didn’t get smooth.

2.    It gave a depth to my textures and colors as I worked them up to their final finishes.

Charring wood was invented by the Japanese centuries ago
and called “Shou Sugi Ban “ or “Yakisugi”.
In the early 2000’s the process was “rediscovered”
by architects and designers in Europe and North America.

The idea is to burn the surface of wood to varying degrees.
The charred surface is then rot resistant, weather,
UV and fire resistant,
in addition to the aesthetic beauty .

I continue to use this process on much of my work.
I love this as a first step.
It adds a level that draws you in to the texture.

Until next time
keep the fires burning
and

Ready for Action!!! New Studio!

studio move.jpg

Moving Day(s) are now a memory.
Survival tactics ie. Tequila.....  were critical.
Taking a deep breath is the first step
then just digging in.
Things moved from one side to another then back and forth
until they found their home.
The studio is working beautifully,
and is located in the Mid-Valley Industrial Park.

I am finishing up commissions, starting new ones
and am inspired to create.
stay tuned,
and
"Live Creatively"
til next time,

Let's Talk... Peak at Process

There are so many steps to creating.
Each step takes an inspiration, heart, touch,
and of course the passion and energy to make it happen.

The first step is conception of an idea,
often collaboration with the designer or client.
sketch, sketch and sketch... fine tune...
Materials, colors, then time for me dig in...
feel it, work it, rework it etc etc etc...
Only knowing it is finished, when it is finished.

I love the physicality of my work,
although tequila, ibuprofen and a chiropractor
are part of my world.
There is something about working with
substantially sized pieces that I really like.
Seeing the installation and how my work
becomes part of a home
and integrates within the decor is the gift.

Below is a quick video that i made for a designer and her clients.
The project is for a bar area.
The "barn" doors flank the inset bar.
Cabinet doors and drawer fronts were sent from the cabinet maker,
so I could match the texture and finish.

I hope this inspires you to

Til Next Time
