Lynn Goldsmith "ART IS WORK"

Snow Queens

Snow Queens

Aspen has given me the opportunity to know Lynn
for so many years and I have been
amazed and impressed by her work and creative path.
The gallery has given me a chance to really get to know her depth of work.
"The Looking Glass" has always intrigued me.
The work conveys a purposeful message, exploring beauty, gender,
and the nature of identity.
Fantasy and reality mix freely in these compositions.
Lynn transforms her identity in these very, thought provoking photographs.
They have a rich palette, layers of symbolism, and they draw you in.
I see new things in each piece as I sit in the gallery and have the time to reflect.

Lynn is an artist who has been at the forefront of performance art with her aka Will Powers
while also being an award winning portrait photographer
whose work has appeared on covers of magazines such as Rolling Stone,
Life, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, and Interview, to name a few.
Her videos and photography are in the permanent collections of MOMA,
The Smithsonian, The Polaroid Collection, The Kodak Collection,
The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Photography,
The Sir Elton John Collection as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lynn's accolades go on and on.
I will leave you with her quote that is inspiring
and resonates with me as an artist.

“Creativity is based on breaking limiting thought patterns,
busting through fear, taking risks,
and persistently working hard toward your goals,
if the individual wants to maximize their potential for a full life.”
Lynn Goldsmith

Changing Lives, One Scarf at a Time.

Handcrafted from Kyrgyzstan
The global movement to connect artists from the developing world
to worldwide customers contributes to a sustainable way of life.
Aidai Asangulova makes one of a kind textiles
by fusing felt and hand woven silk.
There is no stitching in her textiles: the threads of silk and wool
are joined by using a seamless hand-rolling technique.

Aidai's work also exemplifies a cross-cultural fusion,
combining the felt-making traditions of Kyrgyz nomads
with the silk-making traditions of the settled Uzbek people.
She has worked to recreate forgotten techniques.
She trains village women to make traditional,
but sophisticated products

It means joining a global partnership of people
who believe in one world,
the power of women working together
and the inspiration of beautiful things.

 These one-of-a-kind, exquisite textiles,are unique
and will elevate your your style.
There is more joy when purchasing
something handcrafted,
with a story.

Now Exhibiting: Adele Seltzer

We are loving living with the totem wall sculptures of Adele Seltzer, a painter, printmaker and metal sculptor. Her work has been inspired by her interest in archeology and her connections with nature. The strength and spirit of this body of work is captivating. They are created from recycled metals and stone and a variety of found materials. The materials take on new symbolic values portraying the human spirit in the vastness of space, time and the connections between animal and human form.  Her sculpture is an outgrowth of her works on paper as well as paintings on canvas.

Adele Seltzer's has participated in more than fifty invitational and competitive exhibitions. She has been represented in galleries in Washington, D.C., New York City and Gallery B Haasner in Wiesbaden, Germany. Adele exhibitions include a solo exhibit at the Bolinas Museum in CA, The SFMOMA Artists Gallery, Bryant Street Gallery in Palo Alto and K.Imperial Gallery in San Fransisco, the San Jose Museum, the De Saisset Museum, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Peninsula Museum and the Palo Alto Art Center.  Her work can be found in many public and private collections in the United States and Europe.

On exhibit thru January 24th.

How to "Live Creatively" in 2017

To "Live Creatively" is a concept of not settling,
and thinking outside of the box.
For artists the act of "making" is a compulsion

Creativity is not just making something;
in fact the root meaning of the word means ‘to grow’.
Creativity is also new ways of thinking,
problem solving and
expanding your perceptions.
Creativity helps you live a better life.
Creativity is about living life as a journey.

Make 2017 a year to break out of old routines,
old designs, take risks, and most of all
have fun
and
"Live Creatively"
